About Us
Radiant Homeschool Collective was built on a simple belief: that when families gather around shared faith and a love of learning, something extraordinary happens. We are a Christ-centered, parent-run co-op in Kansas City's Northland community. We are committed to building a community that provides friendship, enrichment classes, service opportunties, and support for families while encouraging Christ-centered home education. Our classes are parent-taught and faith-aligned.
When We Meet
Radiant Homeschool Collective meets on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. September 14 - November 16 & January 4 - March 22.
Sports Camps will meet at parks across the Kansas City metro August 3-31 and April 3 - May 5 in from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Families are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and spend time in community together after Sports Camp.

This hands-on class focuses on developing the fine and gross motor skills that form the foundation for preschool and kindergarten success. Children will strengthen little hands and fingers through playful activities such as pre-writing practice, tracing, drawing, cutting, gluing, play dough, and other hand-strengthening activities. We’ll also get our whole bodies moving through music, dance, movement games, obstacle courses, and active play designed to build coordination, balance, body awareness, and gross motor control. The Edible Alphabet: A Phonogram Feast

This class focuses on the sensory experience of letter sounds. Each week, children listen to a story, identify a specific vowel phonogram (letter sound), and then prepare and eat a snack that reinforces that sound.

Each week we will focus on a specific geographic continent, examining how the local climate and landforms influenced the development of their foods grown in that area. There will sometimes be snacks or food eaten in this class so please let us know of any food allergies in advance. Why it works: This class utilizes sensory learning and a 'culinary road trip' approach to make geography memorable, moving beyond rote memorization to explore the cultural identity of different continents through their flavors.

This class turns students into 'faith detectives' who investigate the foundational claims of Christianity through hands-on activities and group discussions.
Visual Design: Yearbook

This class produces the co-op's yearbook — and teaches the design thinking behind it. Students learn the principles that separate a page that works from one that doesn't: grid and alignment, hierarchy, white space, type pairing, color, and how a photo gets cropped for impact. Then they apply all of it under real deadlines, working in an online yearbook platform to build spreads from first sketch to final proof. Along the way students shoot and edit photos, interview classmates, write captions and headlines, choose a cohesive theme, and learn to give and take design critique without taking it personally. Everyone owns specific spreads and is accountable for them. The last week of class, a box of finished books shows up — which is the whole point. Expect work outside of class: photographing co-op events, helping with headshots, etc.
Food Truck Entrepreneur

In this project-based enrichment class, students will develop a food truck business plan based on a specific country's geography and culture. They will research local ingredients, design a menu, and understand the logistics of global food sourcing. Recommended curricula: Build A Foods Road Trip Activity, International Foods: Culture, Geography, and Agriculture, Creative Foods and Service (FACS) Frameworks Why it works: It combines geography research with entrepreneurship and creative arts. Students aren't just learning where a country is; they are learning how its physical features (like being landlocked vs. coastal) affect its economy and culinary exports.
Meet the Radiant Leadership Team
Radiant is led by its founding board — Roni Townsend, Treasurer (left), Beth Muir, President (center), Lauren Baxter, Secretary (right). We're three homeschool moms with one shared mission. We built Radiant because we believe the Northland needed a co-op rooted in faith, a flourishing community, that is committed to partnering with homeschool families all the way through high school graduation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Radiant a Christian co-op?+
Yes. Radiant is grounded in the Christian faith. All families are required to affirm our Statement of Faith before enrolling. Our classes are taught in alignment with our Statement of Faith and our community is built on shared Christian values.
Do parents have to stay during the co-op day?+
Yes — Radiant is a parent-run co-op. There are no drop-offs. At least one parent or legal guardian from each enrolled family must be present for the entire Monday session, including events and field trips. All parents in attendance are expected to serve in a volunteer capacity.
Do we have to stay the full day?+
Yes, all families are expected to particpate in the full day.
What does it cost to join Radiant?+
Radiant has three types of fees: a family enrollment fee of $175 annually, a per-student fee of $15 per student, and class fees that range from $0-$40 per class. Costs for field trips and sports camps are separate from the cost that are billed when you sign up. Enrollment and student fees are due before registration and are non-refundable. Class fees are assessed after you register for classes and must be paid two weeks before the start of each semester. Current fee amounts are posted in the Radiant app.
What is your refund policy?+
Enrollment fees and per-student fees are non-refundable. Class fees are non-refundable once classes have begun. If you need to withdraw before classes start, please email admin@radianthomeschool.com as soon as possible.
Can we join mid-year?+
We consider mid-year enrollment on a case-by-case basis depending on class availability and capacity. Reach out to us at admin@radianthomeschool.com and we’ll let you know what’s available.
What volunteer roles are available?+
We have a variety of ways for parents to serve: • Hall Leader — monitors hallways and manages safety communication • Teacher — leads a class for the semester • Co-Teacher — partners with a lead teacher • Teacher’s Aid — supports teachers in the classroom • Cleaning Team — helps reset rooms at the end of each session • Events and Field Trips — helps plan and coordinate outings • Hospitality — welcomes families and helps with check-in
What if I need to miss a Monday?+
Please notify leadership through the Radiant app as early as possible. If you teach or co-teach a class and expect to miss more than 2 weeks in a semester, we ask that you arrange for a qualified co-teacher to cover those sessions. If you anticipate missing more than 4 weeks, we’d encourage you to step back from teaching that semester and re-enroll the following semester.
What is your sick policy?+
Please keep your child home if they have had a fever within the last 24 hours or are showing symptoms of a contagious illness. If a child becomes ill during a session, we will notify the parent and the family will need to leave. Please alert a board member or hall leader before leaving with a sick child.
What is your policy on safety?+
Radiant maintains the following safeguards every Monday: • All adults must complete Safety Training and Background Checks annually • Two adults are present in every room where children are present • No child is left unsupervised at any time • Hall Leaders with walkie-talkies monitor hallways and building access • All participants have completed background checks and annual safety training
Are classes faith-based?+
Course content and materials must not contradict the beliefs outlined in our Statement of Faith. However, not all classes offered are faith-based. This applies across all subjects including science, history, literature, and health. Teachers review their materials prior to each semester to ensure alignment. All classes taught at Radiant require board member approval.
What classes are taught at Radiant?+
Class offerings vary each semester based on parent volunteers and family interest. Classes are posted in the Radiant app when registration opens. Because our classes are parent-taught, the selection reflects the talents and interests of our community. The primary focus will be on enrichment courses.
Do we have to be a member or agree to the Statement of Faith to attend Sports Camps?+
You don't need to be a Radiant member or affirm the Statement of Faith to join us at Sports Camps. You just need to be ready to have fun and treat people well. We ask all attendees to use clean language, show good sportsmanship, and respect everyone and everything around them.

Why does a curveball curve? What makes ice slippery? Why can a cyclist go faster by tucking in behind someone else? This hands-on class treats sports as a physics lab. Each week students meet one big idea — center of gravity, friction, spin, buoyancy — then test it themselves: dropping rulers to measure reaction time, throwing at measured angles to find the farthest launch, racing waxed and unwaxed blocks down a ramp. Everyone keeps a lab notebook and writes a prediction before every experiment. Expect to move; several sessions head outdoors.
